NHI Bill: Request for Extension of Public Comment Period

by | Aug 16, 2018 | Home, News & Analysis, NHI | 0 comments

The National Health Insurance (NHI) Bill has been released and is open for comments. PHM-SA, together with SECTION27, TAC, RHAP and UWC SoPH, amongst others, are in the process of mobilising civil society to request a 3-month extension of the submission period on the NHI Bill and Medical Schemes Amendment Bill. This is because for real consultation to happen in each of the provinces, 21 September is too tight a deadline.

If the extension is granted, we will be organising provincial meetings on the NHI, including consultations, to be submitted 11 December 2018 in Johannesburg and Cape Town – the day before Universal Health Coverage (UHC) day – in which we hope you will take part!

Available here for download is a draft letter that we hope you would be inspired to adjust according to your position and send to the Ministry of Health requesting such extension until 21 December. Please put your version of the letter on your organisational letterhead.

If you require more information, please contact Anneleen De Keukelaere at anneleen@phm-sa.org. If you make a request for extension, please also copy Anneleen as we are keeping track of how many requests are submitted.
